According to the History Channel and Wikipedia, Samhain is one of the things that influenced what is today Halloween. Samhain was a Gaelic harvest festival celebrated at the end of October that:
marked the end of the harvest, the end of the “lighter half” of the year and beginning of the “darker half”. It was celebrated over the course of several days and had some elements of a Festival of the Dead. Bonfires played a large part in the festivities. People and their livestock would often walk between two bonfires as a cleansing ritual, and the bones of slaughtered livestock were cast into its flames.
Where I live, darkness is already descending at around 6pm, so we are definitely entering the darker half of the year. Also this weekend we had the first snow storm of the year (which was mostly rain) that has left many in New England without power. So, in honor of all that is dark and scary, I thought a post on the worst performing MLPs year to date would be appropriate. Below is a list of the 12 MLPs that are down more than 10% (including distributions) so far this year. By comparison, the MLP Index had produced total returns of around 8% including distributions for the year. Happy that our clients only own one of the MLPs on this list.
And in the tradition of Samhain, if you own any of these names, maybe by airing them among the bonfires of the internet, you will be cleansed…
